Week 3

The case study about Magdalena Yesil was interesting as you could see each opportunity allowed her to learn new skills and opened doors to the next opportunity.  Reading this case study made me think about the course of my life and had me contemplating choices I have made.  I can definitely say that with each new opportunity I learned and grew, seemingly to mature as I progressed, preparing me for the next step. Focusing on my own personal code of conduct was a good exercise.  Taking a good long look at what my values, morals, and work ethic is made me stop and ask myself the questions if I am doing everything I can to be the best I can be.  I was glad to see that my work ethic and my integrity is sound, but I could see how I could become even stronger and better. Looking at the grade levels for motives I could think of individuals who would fit in most every grade level.  Looking inward I know I want to be an A and know to be there I need to focus more on s...

Week 2

Reading "What is Your Calling in Life" and really understanding what I want that to be for me was a good exercise.  Everyone has something that is useful to society.  Do you choose to do what is easiest but not very exciting for you, or do you do put your talents to good use and enjoy your job.  Spelling out my "stepping stones and stars" was also a good activity for me to do.  I have progressed far on my stepping stones and worried that this assignment really wasn't for me but then realized that the assignment helped me to see how each step lead or opened the door to the next.  Even the steps that didn't turn out so great, I learned something useful for the future.  Learning how to be more aware of my choices and how they can affect me, even at my stage in life, is something that I look forward to learning more about in this course. Even though we only had to skim Randy Pausch talk, I found that I enjoyed reading what he said so much that I read the enti...

Week 1

Reading and understanding is one thing, but putting it into practice is another.  Through this week's lesson I loved the message that life is hard, but you can still be successful through hard work and perseverance.  Too often I can hit a rough patch and think that it is just too hard, why even try?  Focusing on things pointed out in this lesson makes me feel like I can do it.  I even found things that I am already doing. The suggestion to look for your talents or things that you enjoy and setting goals that align with them is something that I am blessed to be able to do.  I remember a time when I first started out on something I felt prompted to do and years later I realize that I was given the talent to succeed, so of course I did it well, and at the same time enjoyed doing it (even though it was hard and scary at first).  Looking back I also see instances where doors were opened because I worked through hard times. The one area that became apparent t...
